Alter Technology Group was formed in December 2006 through the merger of three companies; Tecnologica/Hirex (Spain and France), IGG (UK), and Toprel (Italy). Up until then, all three companies had both competed and collaborated since they were originally founded in the 1970s and 1980s. Collectively therefore Alter has over 80 years of combined corporate experience in high reliability electronic components. Alter is majority owned by Grupo Tecnologica and Root Capital, a specialist private equity fund in the UK.
We merged our three companies to create Alter in response to the consolidation and globalization of our customer-base. Customers want higher levels of service, more capacity, improved value and wider geographic coverage. As Alter, we have the scale, strength and internationalism to meet these growing needs.

We provide a single point of contact for all high reliability electronic component requirements, covering testing, engineering, procurement, storage, quality control, certification and consultancy. We provide services both for new-build equipment and also for managing component obsolescence issues in operational equipment. We have also extended our component capability into specialized equipment testing and EMC certification.
We can be engaged on a project or programme basis, but our preference is to work in long-term partnership with our clients. We employ over two hundred consultants, technical engineers, laboratory technicians, supplier managers and programme managers in Spain, UK, France, Italy, US and China with a wealth of collective experience in high reliability electronic components. We operate five laboratories, underpinned and interconnected by a rich database of specialist component information, a web-based workflow technology platform and a leading-edge client reporting tool.
Our experience of procuring and testing components for the space industry is second to none. We have worked for over fifty customers across the world over the last 30 years on virtually every new-build satellite and space programme and we are the market leader globally. In addition, we have worked for over twenty clients in the aerospace and defence sector, where the challenge is more usually solving problems of component obsolescence.
